Bentgrass: Applications and Advantages

Applications:

Bentgrass (*Agrostis* spp.), particularly **creeping bentgrass** (*Agrostis stolonifera*), is widely used in:  

1. Golf Courses – Primarily on putting greens, tees, and fairways due to its fine texture and ability to tolerate extremely low mowing heights (as low as 3mm).  

2. Sports Turf – Used in bowling greens, tennis courts, and other high-end sports surfaces where a smooth, dense playing surface is required.  

3. Lawns & Landscaping – Occasionally used in cool-season climates for premium residential or commercial lawns, though its high maintenance needs make it less common than other turfgrasses.  

4. Erosion Control – Some bentgrass varieties help stabilize soil in certain environments.
